Dennis and Jan Warnke have run the family farm for nearly 30 years. Dennis is a native of the Ashton area and Jan was raised in Tetonia and moved to Ashton later when she was in Jr. High. After high school , Dennis and Jan were introduced to each other by a friend and later married. They have two children a son and daughter, they both are North Fremont graduates and have families of their own. Their son, Zane works on the farm with his dad. Jan works in the fields during harvest and is bookkeeper of their farm. She never imagined herself to be a farmer’s wife but really enjoys it! Dennis is a very hands on farmer. You can often find him right along side his hired help moving pipe!
Warnke Farms, like many in the area, grows grain, potatoes, and hay. There is a lot more to farming than just planting, watering, and harvesting. The cycle used by the Warnke’s is to plant in the spring; cultivate the ground, spray the crops for
weeds, and water the crops in the summer. Then harvest the crops and prepare the ground for next years crops in the fall. During the winter they watch over the spuds in the cellars so they won’t freeze and spend many hours in the shop working on equipment.
Warnke Farms is one of the younger farms in the area being three generations. However, since Dennis was a boy, he has been a farmer and is a wonderful asset to the agricultural community in the Ashton Area!
